Big Sean’s seen his stock rise since finally becoming famous last year and he’ll definitely make more strides once G.O.O.D. Music’s Cruel Summer drops later this month. But until then, he’s blessing us with his first solo project since his album, dedicated to his hometown and aptly named the Detroit mixtape.
Sean’s been largely keeping records under wraps, devoid of singles, with just a small preview of the J. Cole-assisted “24 Karats of Gold,” but nothing more than that, so quality and direction can only be speculated at this point. But for those folks who weren’t huge fans of his debut, it’s a safe bet to look for Detroit to be free from mainstream label meddling and more like the comically entertaining Big Sean from FF3.
