Credit the incomparable DJ Wally Sparks (and Gotty’s Instagram page) for putting me on to the reserved dopeness that is SPKSMEN. A personal on-going mission this year has been to rock threads not necessarily known nationwide, but fresh nonetheless and the brand sits near the top of my list. Those interested in joining the movement should take a moment to e-window shop their new Fall/Holiday 2012 collection, which is bursting at the seams with snapnacks, knits, beanies, fleece and tees.* But the line is bigger than just the gear we see available for sale.
“This collection might mean the most to me so far. The design process was during a major transition in my life, being laid off from my day job and forcing me to make this thing work. A lot of hours spent in the design studio. I pretty much cut off the outside world and disciplined myself to create what meant the most to me at this period. I went back to the basics and highlighted some older musical influences that speak volumes till this day. The aesthetic remains consistent. Subtle and understated designs with a powerful underlying story behind each piece.”
* – That gray Spirit crewneck with a Yankee fitted, and the LeBron Xs? Man, listen. Fresh respected.
