The Funk Volume train’s been moving full steam ahead for some time now, with Dizzy Wright using a very solid (and slept-on) album, Smokeout Conversations. He then followed the project up with the Free Smokeout Conversations Mixtape and “Independent Living,” the standout battle cry against the major label dominance in Hip-Hop. And with that hard-hitting one two punch, Dizzy Wright propelled his way to make himself the label’s most promising talent.
And while they acknowledge his skill as an emcee, labelmates SwizZz and Hopsin bring an arsenal of their best raps in a strong effort to avoid being outdone by the Las Vegas native. But individual talents aside, it’s the team chemistry here that makes them all shine as a unit and show that they don’t need the help of any machine or big money. Funk Volume prefers to do things all by themselves and in due time they’ll be laughing in your doubting face Mr. Record Label Executive.
