In a climate where many artists are constantly releasing new music and videos (See: Rick Ross’ recent collection of freestyles hitting the ‘net 2 months after his album’s release), to stay visible and keep up with their competitors, Kingpen Slim opts to put out material at a slower pace. Two full years after dropping The Beam Up 2, Slim finally rewards his faithful listeners with his third, and possibly most anticipated, release Triple Beam Dreams.
Slim’s strength is his versatility. The first two projects in the Beam Up series were well-rounded, and showcased the D.C. native’s ability to feed the streets and make radio-friendly material, while not compromising his sharp lyricism and wordplay. Dreams maintains the same level of quality, and ups the ante with guest appearances by Styles P, long-time collaborator Jim Jones, and No Malice. The self-professed kingpin of the inkpen has made slow and steady progress towards recognition on a national scale, and his latest release is primed to break him through the barrier from buzzing underground artist to undeniable factor.
