Philadelphia’s rap scene is experiencing a resurgence at the moment which may be second only to Chicago’s. While most of the city’s older contingent see the whiskers in their beards getting grayer, the young bucks seem more than willing to pick up the baton and keep the momentum going.
But from the inside looking out, things may not look as hopeful, which Lyn Charles speaks on in his latest offering “Hopeless Westside.” Featuring production by fellow Philly native Grande Marshall, Charles speaks on the gleam seen in the eyes of young hopefuls as they seek out life’s allure juxtaposed against the gritty realities they face on a day-to-day basis. And as Lyn steers us through the West Philly streets in his verses, we realize that the view from Philly might be a lot different from the inside looking out as opposed to what we see while looking in.
