Is helping to catapult John Legend into super-stardom back in 2004, the only reason Kanye’s still able to sign singers? Being fair, G.O.O.D. Music hasn’t produced another popular vocal talent since and I find it odd new jack soul singer Ryan McDermott had any desire to joint the Grammy Family. Yet, he’s the one with an inside scoop and contract, so what do I know? Either way, the mysterious and previously unknown writer/producer recently announced on Twitter he’s indeed inked with Yeezy’s label and this ominent approach at “Paradise” is his first single.
Sonically, the track is well-produced and an overall solid effort for a debut. But, personally, there’s nothing here that’s grabbing my attention…like pretty much every other singer on the label, not named Legend. Actually, Mr. Hudson has always impressed, but where’s his album again? That’s what I thought.
Does anyone buy into Mr. McDermott and/or Kanye’s choice of singers in general? Or are we chalking them up to the same personality traits that pick out his skirts?
