Trinidad Jame$ – “All Gold Everything” Video

By 10.16.12

Going on record to state that Trindad Jame$’ Don’t Be S.A.F.E. will probably end up as one of the top five releases in the book of Gotty™. Months removed from the release and the mixtape stays cemented as part of my listening rotation. And being the informed guy that I am, people always ask me “who’s hot or what’s worth listening to?” and this guy and that tape get one of the first mentions.

When we usually post his material, the typical response is an off topic comment about his image. I guess it’s one of those things where you get fixated on it – for amusement or ridicule – or you acknowledge it and keep moving. He’s not the first rapper to dress with an unusual sense of style and, for the record, Danny Brown’s toothless countenance but impeccable skills shall forever be the turning point for me when it comes to judging an artist off appearances alone.

Once you get past Trinidad’s blustery outer appearances, the music’s all the way Atlanta. He combines the street-savvy of Big Boi with Andre’s otherworldly outward appeal to birth one of the most engaging artists to emerge from not just Atlanta but most of rap for the year. That ability to walk the line between concrete and hip births music that plays just as well “hood niggas” and “hipster bitches that shop at Lenox.”

That should be enough. Words can only take Jame$’ story so far. After a certain point, the music carries itself and videos, like this new Motion Family joint for “All Gold Everything,” help to fill in the gaps of the narrative. As Trinidad says throughout the song, “Don’t believe me just watch.”
