After feeling a massive amount of post-IPO pressure, Facebook’s been flooring the gas pedal of innovation quite successfully as of late. Their long-awaited mobile ad platform was finally debuted a few weeks ago and has been received very well so far. But apparently the social networking giant is already a few steps ahead.
TechCrunch is reporting that Zuckerberg and co. have teamed up with European mobile carrier, Orange, to create a platform for numberless calls, through the Facebook app. Or in other words, calling anybody on your friends list. The service is set to debut next summer, and since Orange is a multinational cell phone service, this could potentially be something that hits all of Europe in one swift move.
As of now, not too many details have been released, but I’m still trying to decide how I feel about having my Facebook friends being able to call my phone. I would assume there will be an off switch.
