Cocaine 80s – “Lucid”

By 12.21.12

Since the release of their Express OG EP earlier this year, Cocaine 80s have picked their spots nicely, popping up for guest appearances on high profile albums like Nas’ Life Is Good and Cruel Summer, which featured a couple of memorable vocal spots by frontman James Fauntleroy. With that additional exposure to their name, the still somewhat under defined collective is getting the ball rolling on their next EP, Flower of Life, starting with the first track released from the project, “Lucid.”

Another Fauntleroy solo, the song keeps with the crew’s folksy, guitar-heavy soul, the lyrics painting an abstract tale of perception versus reality. “I heard the whole world could end tomorrow,” he sings in a bit of ultra time-relevant songwriting. The payoff: “…Least we won’t have to pay the bills.”
