“The Hard” debuted in advance of BFK, and immediately vaulted itself as one of the top records of Freddie Gibbs’ promising career. Fred just outright kills it, and the grim Dana Williams hook is just icing on the cake. It’s this kind of gritty, dark rap, executed to perfection, that made him stand out from the pack when he was coming up, pre-Str8 Killa.
And the video has that same quality as well. It tells its own story about a crony-turned-informant and and the according retribution that followed. Best of all, the cold, chilling footage would’ve fit in perfectly in an episode of The Wire, only with Josh The Goon playing the ever-loyal Shamrock.
