Behind all the tough talk and barriers we build around ourselves for an infinite amount of reasons, songs in the vein of Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man” can always hit home. More of a traditional ballad than the radio smash “Locked Out Of Heaven,” “When…” definitely isn’t the number to listen to with a bottle of liquor and a fully charged cellphone.
The lesson in the song’s warnings? Appreciate the moment and put pride to the side on occasion. Pride killed empires, ruined friendships and completely altered paths in life. No one wants to be that person drowning their sorrows telling the sob story of the one who got away. No one wants to be that person checking Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and seeing what was once the present, now the past. No one wants to truly relate to these lyrics.
No one wants to be that guy.
