Ad-libbing a freestyle/slam poetry piece/PSA/rant in the middle of “Clique” in front of hungry European fans is becoming habitual for Kanye West. Following multiple tantrums in London, Yeezy followed up his “corporations are evil” speech with a slightly more uplifting, still completely paranoid bit:
“There’s no motherf*cking awards or sponsorships or none of that sh*t that can stop the dedication to bringing y’all that real sh*t…
No matter how they try to control you, or the motherf*cker next to you tries to peer pressure you, or try to get the best of you, or see what you did and take the rest of you, you can do what you motherf*cking want.”
Oddly inspiring words. But the real meat of his performance can be found in the following clip, one which sees the brash emcee promise new material, to the delight of every fan in attendance.
Look: whether we like to admit it or not, Kanye West – sterling track record aside – has something to prove to the music world. It’s been two-plus years since we’ve seen ‘Ye in his prime, and to reach that point he famously fled to Hawaii to escape the public eye for six months. The result of his six-month hiatus spoke for itself.
Now? Kim’s pregnant, Kanye continues to be one of the most in-demand touring artists in the world (kilt-wearing aside), and he seems to be in no mood to leave the A-list life alone. And let’s not forget the relative disappointment that was Cruel Summer. Kanye might have had fuller plates in the past, but I sure as hell can’t remember when.
