Urging one’s fans to be real is a prevalent theme in rap, yet the plethora of songs seem to fall on deaf ears. Azizi Gibson, whose set I randomly caught at SXSW and really enjoyed, is the latest to present his take on the trill with “Ghost in the Shell.” Living a fake life, let alone thinking about it, is not fathomable after watching the Brainfeeder signee’s video.
The video contains plenty of elements that capture listener’s attention, from Jonathan Lowell’s dreamy production and KB Labs’ excellent depiction of it, to the way that Azizi started out slow with his flow, only to gain momentum midway before ending it more mellow again. The LA resident, by way of Thailand and the DMV, is releasing a project hopefully sooner rather than later.
