Fuse Premieres J Dilla Documentary, Opens Up Dilla’s Record Storage Locker

By 03.20.13

Fuse recently premiered its lengthy documentary on the legacy of one James Yancey, aka J Dilla, earlier today. The nearly 30-minute film documents Yancey’s early years, his rise, work habits and, for the time ever, opens up the infamous storage locker that holds a large breadth of the records the late-Detroit producer used to cook up his beats. Dilla’s mother, Maureen Yancey, also speaks at length about her son’s impact on not just music but also his friends and family, while Dilla’s brother, Illa J, Talib Kweli, House Shoes and other friends make appearances to add their personal anecdotes.

Whether you’re a fan of Dilla or not, block out a half hour of your time to watch. It’s worth it if you consider yourself a beat junkie and/or Hip-Hop fan.
