Blu’s “Vanity” video nearly went over my head when I tried to halfway watch it. Then, about halfway through, I realized the track and accompanying visual need more focus in order to make sense.
Oddly enough (or maybe not), Blu never shows up in any of the scenes. Instead, a young redbone named Lizzy Ashliegh stands in and sort of acts out his words by shifting between costume changes, moving from self-consciousness to confidence. I’m pretty sure I liked it because my mind’s over watching the same standard props in rap vids. Breaking from the norm to take a creative, interpretative approach is good. Quirky, but good.
Chimp did it.
