Eve’s come a long way from her early Ruff Ryder days where she wore the “pitbull in a skirt” moniker so well. She’s gone on to acting roles, awards, the endorsements and being a face more than an artist. Still, she couldn’t deny the itch to record and drops the confident, name check track “Eve.”
Lip Lock, her first album since 2002, will release in early May and she describes her approach to recording as “in your face, but I don’t need to prove anything. It’s not anger, it’s feeling my strength, being a strong woman.” On the “Eve,” Eve – alongside Miss Kitty – is true to her word, moving at a forward pace while launching a lyrical assault over deep bass and a haunting sample. She’s had her share of success outside the booth, but it’s easy to see E-V-E wants her name to ring bells again in rap circles.
