The iPod Shuffle – Kanye West’s “Bittersweet”

By 04.23.13

Whatever route Kanye decides to take on his next solo LP, all I want is that real shit back. This isn’t to say he’s completely deviated from what turned him into a pop-star and cultural ambassador. His ability to craft rib-sticking music remains at an echelon higher than a great majority of his contemporaries. Dark Fantasy was an amazing body of work, still earning spins. The Throne was cool. Cruel Summer was decent.

Yet and still, ‘Ye is at his best, separating from most anyone in pop culture – evident on all of his solo albums thus far – when he crafts music that allowed us to be a fly on the wall for the motion picture otherwise known as his life.

The music that made you feel like Mama Donda’s pride and joy was grabbing your life by the horns and providing it a soundtrack. The music that’d made ‘Ye’s life resemble an open book with a never-ending amount of chapters. Rap is, indeed, better with Kanye in fold. But rap is much better off and progressive when he abandons everything media-driven and affords us the man who helped give Hip-Hop its soul back following the turn of the century (and I don’t mean just the sped up soul samples either).

Case in point, “Bittersweet,” which in reality was sort of like the first “Blame Game.”
