You heard of being too sexy for a shirt and too sexy for a party, but what about being too sexy for a country? In the case of three Emirati men, that’s exactly what Saudi Arabia officials told them.
The men were forcefully removed from an annual cultural event in Saudi Arabia after religious police feared that young women would fall for their looks and incite riots.
“A festival official said the three Emiratis were taken out on the grounds they are too handsome and that the commission (for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vices) members feared female visitors could fall for them,” an Arabic newspaper reported. But that wasn’t enough for the officials as the men were then forced out of the Arabic country and sent back home.
The UAE delegation issued a statement following the removal of the men and reportedly blamed the ousting on an unidentified female artist who was also in attendance with the ousted group. “Her visit to the UAE stand was a coincidence as it was not included in the programme which we had already provided to the festival’s management,” said Saeed Al Kaabi, head of the UAE delegation to the festival.
Pictures of the men were not made available.
