While on the Hotel California media run, Tyga stopped by Power 105’s The Breakfast Club yesterday to chat it up and revealed a quirk about Young Money/Cash Money situation: he claims he hasn’t earned a dime from record sales. What sounds like one of those bad situations the label’s known through a series of lawsuits actually may not be the case here.
“I never got a check from Young Money/Cash Money,” the “Rack City” rapper revealed. “But by me saying that, I’ve always treated my career like independent and everything that I got is because of myself, my own endorsements, me touring, myself. I think I got a signing bonus when I first signed but that was it.” He continued by stating that the company picks up the tab for videos and other things but he prefers the relationship the way it is.
In his case, Tyga says he earns his money the new fashioned way of hitting the road and juggling other hustles. “I felt if I wanted to be independent,” he shared, “I could do that because it would be no difference. I would still tour, put out albums and still sell out shows.” The rest of the convo covers his shoe deal with Reebok, “Last Kings” clothing and more, all of which suggests Tyga seems to be eating comfortably.
