This Former Microsoft Exec’s Planning $100 Million National Chain of Weed Stores

By / 05.31.13

A Seattle entrepreneur announced his plans to do for marijuana what Starbucks did for coffee: make weed widely available everywhere through a chain of retailers.

In a press conference held Thursday, Jamen Shively, CEO of Seattle-based Diego Pellicer, announced plans this afternoon to invest $100 million over the next three years in the growing “social marijuana” market with a national chain of marijuana stores. Shively, who worked as a corporate strategy manager at Microsoft until 2009, stated he’s almost reached an initial $10 million milestone and within three years, he expects to open both medical marijuana and recreational marijuana stores, starting with a dozen in Washington, followed by another dozen in Colorado and hundreds in California.

His end goal? To have Diego Pellicer stand as the first national brand of weed.
