The aughts’ electronic music scene lost the voice behind one of its defining songs yesterday.
Spin reports that Romanthony, the singer on Daft Punk’s classic “One More Time,” passed away yesterday at his home in Austin, Texas, from kidney disease. He was 45.
The New Jersey native, whose real name was Anthony Moore, was an electronic music DJ, producer and singer and gained a sliver of mainstream music fame when he worked with the French duo for their 2000 smash hit. Moore had recorded music since 1992, primarily releasing his material on his own record label, Black Male Records.
Recently, Moore had been working with Berlin DJ Boys Noize on a project and received renewed interest last year when Global Underground re-released his 1993 single “The Wanderer,” which was then picked up by Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak as a Kevin McKay remix.
Daft Punk are in the middle of promoting the release of their first album in seven years this week, but did Tweet out their condolences to their former collaborator.
RIP Romanthony, it was a pleasure working with you. #onemoretime
