Normally, VH1 outpaces all other music channels when it comes to, you know, actually covering music. The films, documentaries and other forms of reporting do justice to the subject and fans. Except that one time, when they made that God awful Michael Jackson movie starring Flex Alexander as Michael. Oh, and let’s not forget the MC Hammer movie or the ratchet reality shows. Okay, aside from all that, they’re still pretty good, I think.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I’m being picky and I admit it.
A lot of people anticipate watching this biopic, yours truly included. We’re talking TLC, the edgy, talented girl group that stood out among all the ’90s bland boy bands. But viewers better be ready for the initial shock of the faces of the group. That’s said without offense to Drew Sidora, Keke Palmer and Lil Mama because it’s hard to live up to the expectations, especially when T-Boz and Chilli are still rather young and attractive to this day. I think I had a different crush on each one of the three across each album and Chilli will forever be finer than wine. God blessed that woman with amazing genes.
And, it’s no fault to VH1 either since surviving members Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas serve as executive producers and consultants to the film. It’s just tough to let go of the images of the quirky, progressive images of TLC stored in our heads from what seemed like not so long ago.
