For years, The Onion has offered sarcasm-drenched lulz that left-wingers could read, chuckle, and share with friends. News the publisher would be ending its 25-year run was depressing, but the reasoning behind it made sense with the way that this country is headed, the line between satire and reality is becoming increasingly blurred.
Those wanting proof of this trend need only look at the Buckeye State for proof, where an anti-abortion group is making headlines. In an effort to raise money for their message to be heard, the Midwest group – known as Personhood Ohio – is selling assault rifles, a move spearheaded by group leader Patrick Johnston.
“In a recent email blast, Johnston asked his fellow Ohioans to help support his personhood cause by buying some assault weapons from his personal collection. “I’m selling some of my favorite things — some powerful rifles and ammo,” the Personhood Ohio director wrote.
“I’m a firm believer that the Second Amendment protects the future of freedom, but not as much as justice for the preborn,” Johnston’s email continued. “The shedding of innocent blood will bring God’s wrath on the land — and then you can wave freedom goodbye. So protecting Ohio’s children is more important than securing your right to keep and bear arms.”
“Johnston put three of his own firearms, as well as 2,550 rounds of ammo, up for auction on his Facebook page. The Ohio-based blog Plunderbund reports that Johnston’s guns all use the same kind of ammunition as an AK 47. Two of them include high capacity magazines and one has a drum that holds 100 rounds.
I’m not here to tell you how to feel about abortion or gun control, just to point out the batsh*t crazy conservative smoothy that certain people in my home state drink on a day-to-day basis. And I know that I’m not alone by any means; every state has their conservatives and liberals. But, the only thing missing from this equation is news that the group holds their weekly meetings in their local church basement.
