Vampsterdam is the aftermath of many nocturnal nights in the studio fueled by illicit substances, so said Nacho Picasso and Avatar Darko at their listening party a few weeks back. Amidst the drugs, disposable women, and near-chaos that these two seem dangerously close to, there exists an underlying feeling of camaraderie. Devout followers of either will notice how they’ve influenced each other’s cadences and content for the better.
They’re still intimidating goons, and cuts like “Mad Max” and “Vampire” illustrate that beautifully, but they do have their emo moments. “Smells Like Lean Spirit” with Clams Casino’s sprawling beat, as well as Blue Sky Black Death’s beat for “Emptiness” give the EP a well rounded feel. With the help of AraabMuzik, Raised Byy Wolves, Cardo, it’s a dark foray into the other side of Seattle that is Vampsterdam, but well worth exploring for ten tracks.
