Well look at what the Internet gods have delivered to early-morning RSS feeds: a brand-spankin’-new Empire of the Sun album, streaming in its entirety. The album’s entitled Ice On the Dune and it’s the Australian duo’s first LP since 2008’s Walking On a Dream, which birthed a huge single of the same name.
For those who can still recite the bouncy tune word for word (even before Wiz Khalifa remixed it), there shouldn’t be any worries that Empire have strayed from what made their work stand out in the first place. They told Rolling Stone that, “we just really wanted to make a good record and not alienate this sound that people love so much…. Not to indulge or re-invent the wheel of sound, or lose the synergy of everything on the first record.”
But there is one contributor of note: Usher. The Atlanta resident and Empire frontman Luke Steele collaborated on Usher’s most recent album, Looking 4 Myself, and rekindled the magic for Ice On the Dune. So kick off your Monday by hitting play below. The first album from an indie-electronic music duo–and a good one at that–in five years deserves a spin or two.
