Another year, another Tech N9ne release for Strange Music fans to bump. But thanks to a rather interesting collaboration, Something Else – set to drop July 30th – should offer a reason for people outside of his dedicated fanbase to pay attention.
Seems that Tech is a dedicated Doors fan and the rapper opened up about his inspiration from legendary rock group in a recent Rolling Stone interview, promising a collaborative track with the still-living members of the group:
Tech N9ne is talking about “Strange 2013” – a new version of “Strange Days,” created in collaboration with the surviving members of the Doors for his upcoming studio album, Something Else (due out July 30th). The track came together through producer Farid “Fredwreck” Nassar, who got to know the band after working with them on Snoop Dogg’s 2004 cover of the Doors’ “Riders on the Storm.” “I told [Strange Music], I know the Doors, so if you really want to do a song with the Doors and you have the budget for it, then maybe I can call them,” Fredwreck explains. “I figured, let’s get the real guys to do it.”
Color me intrigued. I can live without Tech N9ne in my life – nothing against him, but I just never developed a taste for his style – but The Doors are my sh*t, and make some music perfect for rappers to experiment with. Snoop did it successfully with 2004’s “Riders on the Storm” cover and I expect similar or even better quality work from Tech.
