Hopsin’s fans are diehard and rightfully so. Despite scarce verses and no new projects since his 2010 album Raw, the Funk Volume co-founder has 120 million YouTube views, which will increase exponentially with the release of “Ill Mind Of Hopsin 6.” The latest installment in the series that put this Cali rapper on the map, however, is quite different than the rest.
Instead of speaking on race in the industry or throwing jabs at his competition, the former Ruthless Records artist gets extremely personal and tells us how he lost his best friend to a meth addiction. Filled with his always intricate rhyme-schemes and brought to life by this chilling video, the track is unfortunately great and really shows the depth of Hopsin’s ability. We’ve known dude was more than technically sound, but it’s nice to see he can dig on topics beyond the rap game to boot.
Thankfully, Hopsin’s finally delivering more of his well-rounded game come November 26th, with the release of a new album called Knock Madness. He sure knows how to make us wait, right?
