After opening ears with his cover of Drake’s “Doing It Wrong,” Jesse Boykins III releases his latest EP, P.O.P. [purpose or people]. The collection includes a handful of originals alongside Boykins covering notable records by Lana Del Rey, Coldplay, Chris Brown and the aforementioned cut by Champagne Papi. “A lot of these songs were songs I’d been listening to while I was on tour in Europe earlier this year,” Boykins told Red Bull in a recent interview. “These were the songs that kept me going…so when I got back home, I decided to record them.”
The project’s a chance for fans – both longtime and newcomers – to warm up to the Chicago singer’s sound before he releases Love Apparatus, his first project since 2012’s Zulu Guru.
