Slick Rick may go down as the greatest storyteller to ever grace the stage and Snoop Dogg’s “Lodi Dodi” was the perfect homage from another emcee who’s not too shabby in that department himself. Off of 1993’s Doggystyle, the record covered Rick’s original, “La Di Da Di,” with an added twist and West Coast flair.
Hearing a cover on one of Hip Hop’s cornerstone cuts also makes me wonder how one on a contemporary album would potentially be received. How would a “Diamonds & Wood” cover on Live From The Underground have sounded? Or a “Shed So Many Tears” one on GKMC?
