Trap Muzik turning 10 was a topic of discussion earlier in the week, but it was the album prior to it that caught my attention. I’m Serious is totally forgotten by most people but T.I.’s 2001 rookie album had the glimpses of hope that later manifested themselves into a cohesive whole on Trap…
A weekend or two ago, I ended up catching Tip’s VH-1 Storytellers episode and one of the set’s first songs was “Still Ain’t Forgave Myself.” What we hear on the song is one of T.I.’s strongest abilities – to take elements from his personal life turn them into strong songs. When it comes to spilling his guts to family, friends, baby mommas and more, not too many on his level can touch Tip. With the autobiographical sketches, he wasn’t telling generic rap stories, he was telling his story and that’s what made it worth listening.
