Macklemore and Ryan Lewis‘ latest video “White Walls” spans the west coast, with the Seattle duo meeting up with Schoolboy Q in LA before taking their appreciation of Cadillacs back home to Seattle. I was on hand for the actual shoot, it was absolutely astounding to see the city turn out and the chaos that ensued. Of course that meant that the shoot was delayed by hours, but that’s typical of most rap videos these days.
Perhaps it’s the Seattle bias, but it is quite tiresome hearing the continual hate these two get for their success. Whether they’re performing “Same Love” nearly a year after it came out to fresh rounds of the same criticism, or that whole “They’re-NOT-independent-hip-hop” argument, blah blah blah. Come correct in the hate.
If you’re going to criticize someone for being that successful, at least be creative and don’t recycle the same tired insults. The fact of the matter is they produce music like “White Walls,” have great visuals, and are murking the Billboard charts. And surely, the video will inspire a new round of hate.
Shoutout to Hollis, too.
