Snoop Doggy Dogg was the seminal rapper spawned from the Death Row/Suge Knight/Dr. Dre diaspora with Doggystyle. Almost two decades later, the album is still cited as an influence to many, including Rickie Jacobs, who was just a young child at the time. Years after the fact, Snoop’s influence over Jacobs still stands tall and he’s created a “Deep Cover” freestyle dedicated to Snoop.
Entitled, “The Ghost of Calvin Broadus” it even mimics his stop-start flow from the ’90s to give an almost uncanny West Coast flavor, that doesn’t sound outdated. And even more impressive still, Rickie’s own flavor on “The Ghost…” manages to distinguish it from the 8327922 other recreations of the classic record.
