Move over, Coca-Cola. Your delicious soft drinks are no longer synonymous with being the world’s number one brand. That honor now goes to Apple as the computer giant recently overtook Coke thanks, in large part, to its cultural signifigance. Per Interbrand CEO Jez Frampton:
“Every so often, a company changes our lives, not just with its products, but with its ethos… This is why, following Coca-Cola’s 13-year run at the top of Best Global Brands, Interbrand has a new No. 1 — Apple.”
YEAH, COKE. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR US LATELY? WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU REALLY “WOWED” US WITH SOMETHING FRESH?
I’m actually kind of surprised that Apple wasn’t already number one on such a list, but kudos. While my appreciation for their products doesn’t quite reach Raj-like levels of devotion, I prefer their computers over Windows for pretty much anything (note: I don’t game on my computer).
It’ll be interesting to see where this list stands in five years. Google is knocking on Apple’s door at number two (the search engine giant bumped Coca-Cola to number three), but it should really be Samsung that the head of the class should be worried about. At number eight and climbing, their catalog – which includes the best TVs on the market, the ever-popular Galaxy line of phones and tablets, numerous Windows 8-powered computers and popular household appliances like washers, dryers and refrigerators – the South Korean conglomerate is a safe bet to rise.
