Winter is coming…and that means the OG fantasy quest film franchise is returning to theaters. This time in the form of Tolkein’s The Hobbit as The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
Picking up where An Unexpected Journey left off, part two of the latest Peter Jackson helmed trilogy finds our motley crew of Gandalf (Sir Ian McKellan), the 13 dwarves, and a pre-One Ring addicted, Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) heading into more danger as they race to meet face to giant face with Smaug the dragon (voiced by the British Based God Benedict Cumberbatch).
This latest trailer gives us more insight into the continuing tale with scenes of giant spiders, wonderfully rendered CGI battle sequences, ominous speeches, a flame spitting dragon and the EYE. But what’s sure to grab people’s attention is the return of fan favorite Legolas, played by Orlando Bloom. Bloom hasn’t had a hit in awhile, so seeing him back as the baddest elf with a bow and arrow definitely has me excited.
December 13th isn’t that far away but hearing Cumberbatch’s voice echo as the menacing Smaug makes it feel like an eternity.
