You see, what the media wants you to believe about Michael Jordan’s first retirement from basketball isn’t exactly correct. Stories of playing baseball and rampant gambling are just a giant hoax; as anybody who has witnessed the glory that was Space Jam can attest, the Looney Tunes required MJ’s talents in a contest with grave implications.

No lie: I will never get more excited for a movie than I did for Jam. I was six-and-a-half, and my favorite people in the world were: my mom, my dad, I guess my two brothers, Bugs Bunny, my buddies down the street, Michael Jordan, and Tommy Pickles. Casting two of them in a movie? It seemed like Hollywood was saying, “Young AJ, this is for you! Just for you, and nobody else! We hope you enjoy it!”

Naturally, that wasn’t the case, because I’m pretty sure that the movie represents a seminal life moment for everybody born between 1985 and 1990. But we can’t be possessive about great pieces of art like this. We have to share them, learn from them, grow from them.

Also, shout out to current Pelican star Eric Gordon for his portrayal as Michael Jordan’s youngest, Marcus Jordan. There’s clearly a second career for EG whenever this whole basketball thing ends.
