Jay Z once famously said, “Man, you was who you was ‘fore you got here.” Blake Griffin can talk all he wants to about “Lob City” being a thing of the past but he’s going to need a lot more people if the Clips are going to put on aerial hijinks like they did last night.
Roughly midway through the third – in the span of a half minute – the Warriors’ sloppiness with the rock became the foundation for three consecutive alley oops for Griffin (23 and 10) which damn near eviscerated the roof off Staples Center. Because, as we all know, the Los Angeles Clippers in transition are the equivalent to getting off work early on a Friday – there’s just so many possibilities that can happen that weren’t there previously.
The Clippers won 126-115 in what ultimately resulted in a shoot out between Chris Paul and Stephen Curry, who went for 38 points (9-14 from three) and nine assists. The only blemish on Curry’s night were the 11 turnovers, a couple of which resulted Blake Griffin momentum swingers. Paul, on the other hand, had quite possibly his best game ever as a pro dropping 42 points, 15 assists and six steals.
For the record, these two teams meet again December 25. A late Christmas gift if there ever was one.
