Sometimes, a song will deliver a swift kick to the gut and you won’t be able to escape from its oncoming approach between the vocals and roaring beat behind it. Katy B’s “Crying For No Reason” is one of those undeniable, huge pop songs that panders to the mainstream and FM radio, without sucking like most of those type of songs tend to do. Maybe there’s a magic ingredient in there that I’m unaware of, or it’s based off a secret blueprint to making the perfect balance between pop and electronic songs without scaring fans of both genres.
Whatever the case, Katy B graduated from the BRIT school, the same performing arts school as Adele, Amy Winehouse, and Jessie J, so we know the girl has pipes and her album Little Red will be out early next year, when we’ll determine where she ranks alongside the aforementioned names. Right now, Katy’s got the makings of a hit with “Crying…,” which may not move you to tears but it will remain on loop in your head.
