Move Over ‘Orange Is The New Black': Disney, Netflix Partner To Release Four New Marvel Universe Series

In the wee hours of the morning, The Walt Disney Co. and Netflix announced a team-up in the creation of, not one but FOUR new Marvel Comics-based TV series, starting with the blind bad-ass Daredevil (REBOOT!!!).

So far, Netflix has made a 13-episode commitment and will highlight the likes of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Ironfist, alongside the Man Without Fear. The shows will showcase these more street level superheroes as they combat the supervillainy of Hell’s Kitchen. But it doesn’t stop there. The run will them culminate with a Defenders (YES DEFENDERS!!!) mini-event, bringing the heroes together. All of the above kicks off in 2015. I’m trying to contain myself.

“This deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel’s brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling. Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel’s specialty,” said Alan Fine, President of Marvel Entertainment. “This serialized epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what’s sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure.”

Marvel Comics has been dominating the big screen with their superhero adaptations since 2008’s Iron Man. Since then, they’ve developed an entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, connecting their various superheroes and villains for an amazing experience. For 2013, they moved to the small screen to create Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC. This new series follows a team of highly trained (read: Whedonesque characters) scientist and spies, as they defend the world from the threats that might elude the folks in tights. The series is designed to fill in the gaps between the films, the first of its kind.

It’s unclear where these new series will be situated in the larger MCU, but if the past is any indication, we can probably except to see quite a bit of synergy.

Now, let me go off and have a fanboy overload.
