Happy Birthday Midnight Marauders! Oh, you didn’t know? A Tribe Called Quest’s third album is 20 years old today and, now, TSS’s resident old heads feel mid life crisis on the horizon. That’s alright though because it’s still a tight album. Signature production and the everyman appeal of joints like “8 Million Stories,” “Electric Relaxation” and, well, the whole album made the project endure time’s test. So, while it’s a ’90s record, it’s one of THE albums of the ’90s across all genres.
Tribe heads always argue about ranking Tribe’s discog and, to keep it 100, The Low End Theory always puts up a proper argument as the top contender. Low End holds the distinction as one of rap’s key introductions to jazz-based sampling, effective dynamics and, frankly, Phife Dawg’s rap career among plenty other accolades.
What do you say though, guys? Can you consider Midnight Marauders as the group’s best work? Let us know, Questors.
