When Vado moved over to Khaled’s operation, I was concerned. Khaled makes catchy, but usually vapid music. Vado does not. True, he make a tune worthy of poppin’ bottles when he wants, but his strengths are his attention to the details and drawing out street stories with his words.
With “Look Me In My Eyes,” the first track we hear from his Sinatra EP, the leader of the slime brings part of Miami up to Harlem, finding himself back at home serving his rhymes while perched on the stoop. Not a lot of glitz and glamor here, Vado returns to speaking smart, street philosophies over Scott Storch’s (!!!) sparse keys and sharp drum pattern. Ross serves his purpose (and I could do without French), but what’s best is Vado settled and at home in his comfort zone.
