How do you top pissing off DC Comics’ fans after casting Ben Affleck as Batman?

Well, how about casting Jesse Eisenberg (yes, the Social Network guy) as Superman’s preeminent nemesis, Lex “I was rocking bald before Professor X made it cool” Luthor in the upcoming Man of Steel 2 aka the Superman/Batman film?

While the incredibly awesome Jeremy Irons has been picked to replace the also incredibly awesome Michael Caine, as the newest incarnation of Batman’s confidante, Alfred Pennyworth. So a little good and a a little bad, right?

“Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940. What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman,” Snyder explained in a press release. “Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.”

A week or so back it was announced that the film was moved to summer 2016, probably to give it more room to breath instead of falling in the genre-heavy summer of 2015 (which is also home to Avengers: Age of Ultron, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Wars: Episode VII, Ant-Man, a Fantastic Four reboot, and brand-new Bond, Jurassic Park and Terminator films). This new shift is just the latest in a series of controversial castings for the highly anticipated film. The aforementioned Ben Affleck’s casting as the latest incarnation of the Dark Knight, and Gal Gadot, from the Fast and Furious franchise, as DC’s premiere female superhero, Wonder Woman, both have the Internuts talking.

Of course, this far out, it’s anyone’s guess how the actual film will shape up. I guess we can hope for the best? Man of Steel soars into theaters May 6th, 2016.
