No surprises here. After an incredibly long hiatus from the music scene, Justin Timberlake pretty much owned 2013. The numbers reflect just that: JT had the year’s top-selling album in 2013, per Billboard. The 20/20 Experience moved 2.43 million units, making it the only project to break the two million unit mark. That number represents the lowest such number for the year’s top-selling album since SoundScan began keeping record of such figures in 1991. That sound you heard is a record exec clinging to a giant pile of money, telling himself that everything is going to be fine.
Eminem (The Marshall Mathers LP 2), Luke Bryan (Crash My Party), Imagine Dragons (Night Visions) and Bruno Mars (Unorthodox Jukebox) round out the top five. All sold more than one million albums over the past year, as did Beyonce, whose self-titled surprise album went platinum in a little over two weeks, putting her at number eight. Making her easily the most badass artist on the list. Can’t you just imagine her saying “Oh, word, JT? Took you how long to sell over two million copies? Give me another month, kid.”
