Trail Blazers LaMarcus Aldridge Drops Career-High 44 Points On Nuggets

By / 01.24.14

Some forget the year prior to Kevin Durant crash landing at the University of Texas, Austin was LaMarcus Aldridge’s stomping ground. The No. 2 overall pick in 2006 even played a significant role in KD choosing Texas. So it makes sense LMA felt some type of way about not being voted as a starter alongside the Slim Reaper in next month’s All Star Game.

So how’d he respond?

By dropping 44 points (15-29 from the field and 14-17 from the charity stripe) to go along with 13 rebounds and five assists on Nuggets, who in essence served as collateral damage. Down double digits, Portland used a 24-14 fourth quarter to edge out a 110-105 victory improving to 32-11 on the season.*

As for the Aldridge and the Blazers next opponent? Let’s just say the NBA scheduling gods have an unique style of humor. None other than Kevin Love and Timberwolves come to town for a one-on-one matchup as anticipated for a Saturday night game as there’s been in quite some time.

* – Here a weekend fun fact. Portland ranks first in points-per-game (109.3), second in rebounds (46.5) and third in assists (24.6).
