I wasn’t impressed with the infamous Loaded Lux “You Gon’ Get This Work” battle. Here’s why:
1. He forgot his first verse, stumbled around for a while and pretty much forfeited his verse because he couldn’t remember his lines. I know that the idea of an off-the-top freestyle battle is archaic, but he couldn’t muster some lines and regain his place?
2. The knockout punch came off a freaking twit pic? An Instagram photo? On a big screen? Ugh. What’s dope about that? I get the “wow” factor of the moment, but if we’re talking bars then that doesn’t do anything for me.
3. Sometimes Lux just doesn’t make any f*cking sense.
Yeah. Screw you guys. I DON’T CARE!
This isn’t to say Lux isn’t particularly dope and he didn’t create an unforgettable moment with his funeral theme. But the actual rap battle aspect was meh to me. Even though, clearly Lux won against a guy not in the same league.
This, though? This was incredible.
While the “You Gon’ Get This Work” battle will be more renowned but Loaded Lux vs. Hollow Da Don is where the rubber hits the road. Hollow let it be known early that he wouldn’t be susceptible to gimmicks and seemed to have Lux taken aback early. So Lux fired back and these two traded knockout blows for three rounds of five minutes each.
What’s interesting is that Lux saved his strongest for the third round while Hollow had to come out the gate strong to get the crowd. For my money, Hollow took this win.
PS. There may not be anything more annoying than some of these battle crowds. These auxiliary friends and crew members are more than fans. They’re full-on cape-wearing lovers, and they reared their ugly head trying to boo Hollow before he even got started in the third round. Seriously, Loaded Lux isn’t your real dad.
Don’t get so emotional, booster club.
