Nike’s definitely shouting out ‘MURICA on these Zoom KD VI ‘DC’ kicks.
Playing up the birthplace of the Durantula, the new VIs go back to the plain colorblocking of the first few releases with patriotic results. The shoe damn near plays Hulk Hogan’s “Real American” entrance music right out of the box. Steve Rogers vigorously approves.
Rather than roll with the usual varsity red for USA inspired footwear, Nike opted for the brighter crimson. The loud color finds balance with the use of navy accents, and khaki midsole. At first we weren’t really happy with the use of khaki since it could resemble the faded and oxidized midsoles utilized for the ‘OG Collection’ but it’s growing on us. We would have preferred a navy midsole but another neutral color works out as well since more crimson might have made the shoe way too loud.
Big-ups for the use of multicolored laces as well. Maintains the theme of the shoe nicely without becoming an eyesore. No word on if these will replace the DMV staple in the Foamposite though. Time will tell.
The Nike KD VI ‘DC’ releases February 6th online and at local Nike retailers.
