Well, his music is, at least.
According to Playbill, tunes from the late Tupac Shakur will be leading Holler If Ya Hear Me, a musical directed by Tony Award nominee Kenny Leon. The catch is, the show won’t be about Pac per se, but a story of two childhood friends struggling with the difficulties of growing up. The show is produced by Afeni Shakur and slated to start June 19th.
Personally, this seems like a no-brainer. People have latched on to ‘Pac’s tunes for decades and will have no problem breaking bread to see them live and in person, even if they’re being performed by recently-graduated theater majors. Plus, new demographics might be more willing to venture off Times Square and into some theater seats.
Regardless, Tupac would be proud. With his theater background, this is something he probably envisioned happening in way or another. Hopefully, they do him right. Afeni has a problem with that, sometimes.
