Two giants under the Nike umbrella are about to make a baby. The Nike SB x Air Jordan I is a direct manifestation of the selling power of Jordan brand, and the cult following amongst sneakerheads that Nike SB has garnered since the early 2000s. And who else than P-Rod to tease the shoe? Dude put on for Jordan with damn near every signature shoe he’s dropped.
For some reason green chroma was chosen for the upper, but no complaints here. It’s subtle enough to highlight the rest of the shoe. A smokey ice sole highlights what looks to be a carbon fiber design underneath, and hints of 3M are on the collar and tongue. The tongue tag is from Nike SB, and the heel font is directly from the original artist and famed designer Craig Stecyk.
Makes sense the Jordan I would be the main inspiration behind the collaboration. The design isn’t too far off from the Dunk, and both shoes were the first in a storied line of classics. Maybe we’re grasping at straws, but for a true skateboarding shoe some Zoom Air and maybe a reinforced toe cap would have been more functional. Then again not a whole lot of folks will be skating in these. Kudos to the fella (or gal) that does though.
The Nike SB x Air Jordan I releases March 15th.
