Welp, basketball fans, we have our next Andrew Wiggins-type prospect to keep tabs on. His name is Thon Maker, and possess an ungodly combination of size (7’1″, 210 pounds), athleticism and handling. Oh yeah, he’s only 16.
Needless to say, the top college programs in the nation are already courting the sophomore from Virginia, including Kentucky, Louisville and Indiana University. This comes from a solid story on Maker from the Louisville Courier-Journal, but let’s be real: the young Australian-born baller can pick any program in the country.
And for those worrying about expectations on such young players: the hype train is impossible to stop, and will only get more absurd over the next two years. Just look at the aforementioned Wiggins (or go all the way back to Felipe Lopez). That really just comes with the territory. Here’s to hoping that he’s mentally capable of shouldering such expectations.
