Tobias Harris’ Buzzer-Beating, Game-Winning Dunk Helps Magic Down The Thunder

Whatever ends up happening this NBA season, here are two truths we know as facts. The Oklahoma City Thunder will make the playoffs and be a championship contender. The Orlando Magic are already planning on drafting any one of college basketball’s media darlings (plus international export Dante Exum). In other words, they’re two teams heading in two completely different directions.

That being said, Kevin Durant and company’s lone trip to Mickey Mouse and Daffy Duck’s hood ended in perhaps the most unorthodox fashion we’ve seen not only this season, but the past few. With the Thunder up one with less than 15 seconds and the ball in Durant’s hands, things appeared to be a formality. That was until an off-target KD jumper led to a long Victor Oladipo rebound and fast break. What happens next makes Tobias Harris’ 6-17 shooting night a mere footnote.

Meanwhile, every single member of the Thunder was left with the “I eat ass” face. The victory gives Orlando its first four-game home winning streak in two years.

Fast Break

– Normally, 38 points and 11 assists from Damian Lillard would’ve been enough to secure Portland a victory. Thanks to George Hill’s 38-9-8 and David West’s 30-10, the Blazers fell 118-113 in overtime on the road to Indy.

– Credit the dog days of the NBA season or Paul George having to exert energy on both sides ball as the Pacers best player, but PG24 is shooting 30.1% (38-126) in his last seven games. Or maybe it’s news of his “break baby” with a Miami stripper that have concentration elsewhere.

– That leads to another thought, how is that so many athletes/entertainers are having accidental “break babies” and Wilt Chamberlain has no known children. For crying out loud, Wilt allegedly knocked down 1.37 women per day since he was 15 and never got caught up. Wear a damn rubber, All Stars. Going raw will make you the pa.

– Anywho, and more importantly, break up the Lakers! After beating Cleveland the night before thanks only five healthy players (one of whom fouled out), Los Angeles made it two in a row with a 112-98 win over Philly. L.A. used a 25-13 fourth quarter to pull away.

– The individual battle between John Wall and Kyrie Irving went the future Slam Dunk Champion’s way (32-5-10 to 23-3-12). Unfortunately, the Wiz Kids’ streak of being .500 didn’t last too long as they fell to 24-25 thanks to a 115-113 loss to the dysfunctional Cavs.

– DeMarcus Cousins and Jared Sullinger both dropped 31 points and 16 rebounds. There was no tie in the final score, however, with Boston pulling out a 10-point win 99-89.

– Led by Andre Drummond’s 16 points and 22 rebounds and Brandon Jennings’ near triple double (26-10-9), the Pistons made light work of the Nets 111-95. And it didn’t even take 50 games for the Josh Smith trade rumors to surface.

– Carmelo Anthony’s current team (Knicks) made light work of Carmelo Anthony’s former team (Nuggets) 117-90 in MSG behind Carmelo Anthony’s 31 points.

– Speaking of Orlando’s race towards lottery status, the Jazz are matching step-for-step in futility. Utah suffered a 22-point road loss in Dallas and Dirk Nowitzki barely played half of the game to do so (26 minutes).

– Where Chocolate City featured a battle of two of the league’s top point guards, the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans did so with a duo of all-league power forwards in Anthony Davis and Kevin Love. Love’s poor shooting night still resulted in 26 points and 19 rebounds while The Brow captured 26 points and 10 boards of his own in a Pelicans 98-90 win.

– More importantly, Ant Davis is an All Star! He’s replacing Kobe.

– Blake Griffin followed up a 43-15 game against the Heat with 36-8 against the visiting Raptors. Only this time, his Clippers waltzed away with a 118-105 win.
