Steve Nash is one of my all-time favorite players.

Which is why watching arguably the best shooter to ever live* battle a rash of injuries since joining the Lakers serve as especially difficult to stomach. Grantland’s step-by-step journey of Nash’s rehab – entitled “The Finish Line” – is a poignant, must-watch as Steve fights for respect, the right to pen his own ending and, yes, money. As the two-time MVP notes, it’s either the Lakers or retirement next season. For those who missed the first episode, catch up on both while attempting to remedy Saturday night’s hangover.

With Nash and Kobe battling their own bodies, KG, Tim Duncan and Ray Allen on borrowed time and Iverson officially gone for good, the end of an era is sitting on our doorstep. Basketball mortality is a very real topic.

Being able to witness its final chapters first-hand – as is the case here with Nash – make that dose of reality taste a tad more sour when digesting its magnitude.

* – Seriously, check his career numbers – 49% from the field, 42.8% from three and 90.4% from the free throw line. He’s almost a CAREER 50-40-90 player.
